Chhatrapati Shivaji maharaj was one of the bravest, most progressive and sensible rulers of India. The founder of the Maratha Kingdom, Shivaji maharaj was born to be a natural leader and fighter.The king established a progressive civil rule and well organised administrative organisations. He came up with several military tactics and mastered non-conventional methods that made complete use of geography and strategy to defeat powerful enemies. His first attack was on the Torna fort. He captured the fort only at an age of 16. After capturing Torna fort, he captured Kondana and Rajgad forts.He was the head person in his administration. But there were other persons and cabinets (Ashtapradhan mandal composed of eight ministers) to help him. Rajmata Jijabai is regarded to be the master of Shivaji’s bravery. Shivaji was extremely devoted to his mother who was also very deeply religious.The army of Shivaji defeated the Bijapuri Sultanate in the battle of Pratapgad.Shivaji created and maintained an organized and disciplined army consisting of infantry, cavalry and navy. Shivaji recruited only able persons in his army. He had the skills to manage a huge army.
